The wonderful topic of *" The Darker Side of Trekβ¦" is going to continue right here hosted by @[GEC] Kai1701E β€
[TNU]Atsumari09-Dec-17 03:57 PM
heh
[GEC] Kai1701E09-Dec-17 03:57 PM
lol
So, rather weirdly, murder was made almost acceptable in Trek. What are your thoughts on this? We had Dukat kill Dax in cold blood.
Carde09-Dec-17 03:59 PM
I love darker side things, hell I have had my character commit torture at times to get what they needed and believe me Jane would blast her way through anything to protect the Federation cause it may be a lot of smoke and mirrors it is still the best option out there
[TNU]Atsumari09-Dec-17 03:59 PM
Well one of our crew murdered an entire space station
he basically blew it up
Edgeford09-Dec-17 03:59 PM
In something like DS9, where the stakes are that high, murder and death are inevitable. To leave it out would be very unrealistic
[TNU]Atsumari09-Dec-17 03:59 PM
he then go tthrown in prison until jag sealed him ina box then he was needed again
Carde09-Dec-17 03:59 PM
There is a reason why the speech of in the pale moonlight is so damn good
[TNU]Atsumari09-Dec-17 04:00 PM
so they basically made him the captains pet at that point
Narica09-Dec-17 04:00 PM
My character has never considered torture largely on account of it not being effective re: accurate info
Carde09-Dec-17 04:00 PM
Depends on how and when it is applied
[TNU]Atsumari09-Dec-17 04:00 PM
yeah
Edgeford09-Dec-17 04:00 PM
And how you verify it
Carde09-Dec-17 04:00 PM
And well you should never depend on a single source
[TNU]Atsumari09-Dec-17 04:01 PM
or you just make them think you are going to torture or harm them or their family
Carde09-Dec-17 04:01 PM
So combine that and it works like a charm at times
[GEC] Kai1701E09-Dec-17 04:01 PM
Anyone ever had their CO character on the verge of permitting "dark" acts in the name of defending the Federation
[TNU]Atsumari09-Dec-17 04:01 PM
usually that is good enough to get what you need unless you are dealing iwth someone with formal training
Carde09-Dec-17 04:01 PM
Phsycological torture is very effective
[GEC] Kai1701E09-Dec-17 04:01 PM
And I mean beyond combat
Edgeford09-Dec-17 04:01 PM
some of the best turning is done without laying a finger. Any of you chaps seen the TV version of Tinker Taylor soldier Spy or read the book? (edited)
The turning of Grigoriev is how to do it without any violence. (edited)

Carde09-Dec-17 04:03 PM
Dark acts are hard to lay down, I think I have broken the rules and codes of etics quite often.
Edgeford09-Dec-17 04:03 PM
As long as your player base goes along with you, it's okay. It's only when the player base doesn't like it that it becomes an issue
[TNU]Atsumari09-Dec-17 04:03 PM
if my CO character did not work for the President's special tactical unit
she would have lost her command by now
lol
[GEC] Kai1701E09-Dec-17 04:04 PM
Dont you think that could add to the realism?
Phoenix Lalor09-Dec-17 04:04 PM
Realism??????
Edgeford09-Dec-17 04:04 PM
Possibly, have internal affairs or the JAG core on you
Phoenix Lalor09-Dec-17 04:05 PM
I definately do not play for the realism
Narica09-Dec-17 04:05 PM
I have a scene currently re: picking who of a group is most viable to have turn and cooperate vs. who gets to just go through the justice process and probably wind up assassinated by his former clients.
Phoenix Lalor09-Dec-17 04:05 PM
I play because its a GAME. Its fun. And I love wroting soloposts and joint posts
[GEC] Kai1701E09-Dec-17 04:05 PM
No one is supposed to be happy with the decision to do such things, @Phoenix Lalor so if people dont agree, that can make the situation more realistic
Carde09-Dec-17 04:06 PM
I have actually been through writing an entire court maarshal case with a marine CO of mine which was just a means for command to try an cover up
Edgeford09-Dec-17 04:06 PM
I think if you play a dark Federation Officer you have to be IC and OOC ready for moral purist Federation officers to take issue with it IC (edited)
Phoenix Lalor09-Dec-17 04:06 PM
I don't have to be real when i can be a 26 year old captain with no command experience
Who got the job by default!
[TNU]Atsumari09-Dec-17 04:06 PM
lol
Phoenix Lalor09-Dec-17 04:07 PM
Realism has its place.
But Trek is for pushing the boundaries
Well for me it is
Edgeford09-Dec-17 04:07 PM
got the job by default..... what?
Sepandiyar09-Dec-17 04:08 PM
I need at least a touch of realism.
[TNU]Atsumari09-Dec-17 04:08 PM
My character falls into that sadly
Phoenix Lalor09-Dec-17 04:08 PM
My character was the CHOPS who got promoted when the XO mutinied. Then the CO sacrificed himself and made my 25 year old ops chief CO
Sepandiyar09-Dec-17 04:08 PM
I'm ok with some boundaries but still
and I did NOT mutiny lol
Phoenix Lalor09-Dec-17 04:08 PM
@Sepandiyar it was your characters fault. Had you not mutinied....
Sepandiyar09-Dec-17 04:09 PM
ok... ok maybe a little
Phoenix Lalor09-Dec-17 04:09 PM
AH YOU DID
Tried to kill the admiral!
[TNU]Atsumari09-Dec-17 04:09 PM
sometimes Admirals need to die?
Sepandiyar09-Dec-17 04:09 PM
THat they do.
Phoenix Lalor09-Dec-17 04:09 PM
And now my extremely inexperienced Erisian female is CO Of one of OFs biggest ships
Sepandiyar09-Dec-17 04:09 PM
For now. cough
Phoenix Lalor09-Dec-17 04:09 PM
@Sepandiyar's fault
[TNU]Atsumari09-Dec-17 04:10 PM
At least your characters had officer experience
Phoenix Lalor09-Dec-17 04:10 PM
My centre chair now
Edgeford09-Dec-17 04:10 PM
surely though, whilst your charachter would command in an emergency due to the deaths of seniors, they would be replaced by someone qualified when returning to base (edited)
CaptRavenfall09-Dec-17 04:10 PM
The character I used for my Co was a doctor
Phoenix Lalor09-Dec-17 04:10 PM
Didnt happen
[TNU]Atsumari09-Dec-17 04:10 PM
my CO character was literally made Captain after a few months on the job due to long story short war
Carde09-Dec-17 04:10 PM
My captain was on the command track out of the gates, planning to explore the universe, then the dominion war happened and she saw reality again and thinking back of home she made some personal oaths and ever since she has not stopped fighting.
[TNU]Atsumari09-Dec-17 04:11 PM
Now Yuka thinks she can save the galaxy
Carde09-Dec-17 04:11 PM
Serving under her command is a dangerous thing to do and hence she only accepts volunteers, people who know and accept the risks willingly.
Phoenix Lalor09-Dec-17 04:11 PM
I got a more experienced XO and set loose
[TNU]Atsumari09-Dec-17 04:11 PM
Yuka married her XO basically
having a 20 year marine vet as your XO will do that though
Carde09-Dec-17 04:12 PM
But with those oaths it does mean she will do anything to keep the Federation save, the rules be damned cause she learned in war rules mean nothing, only winning means something.
Edgeford09-Dec-17 04:12 PM
here here
[TNU]Atsumari09-Dec-17 04:13 PM
was that directed at me? If so yeah; Yuka would sacrifice herself to save the Federation
and her crew
she understands that much of her duty as Captain
keep the Federation and her people safe
[GEC] Kai1701E09-Dec-17 04:14 PM
So, come on then - who has had their character break the prime directive
Carde09-Dec-17 04:14 PM
Well Jane will sacrifise people, she accepts that she is command and part of that means at times sending people to their deaths.
[TNU]Atsumari09-Dec-17 04:14 PM
Every captain ever
lol
Carde09-Dec-17 04:14 PM
Actually I have not
Phoenix Lalor09-Dec-17 04:14 PM
Not yet
Carde09-Dec-17 04:14 PM
Cause I only done 1 exploration sim and what we ecnountered was warp capable.
Edgeford09-Dec-17 04:14 PM
what was that old Monty quote @Carde "I am not afraid to spend men but I will never waste them." (edited)
[TNU]Atsumari09-Dec-17 04:15 PM
in my universe the prime directive doesnt even exist anymore
[GEC] Kai1701E09-Dec-17 04:15 PM
I dodnt think I have
[TNU]Atsumari09-Dec-17 04:15 PM
they still have noninterferance but its part of the generla orders
Carde09-Dec-17 04:15 PM
O yeah she will never send anyone to their doom without a damn gfoo dreason and she had a bronze plague (a large one) behind her desk with the names of all those who died under her command to remind her of that fact every single day
[TNU]Atsumari09-Dec-17 04:15 PM
though the military doesnt exactly follow that cause all defense was moved from starfleet to a military organization
so starfleet could go exploring Yuka and her crew are part of that defense organization
Carde09-Dec-17 04:16 PM
@[TNU]Atsumari I LOVE YOU, I been saying we need starfleet and a Federation Navy for ages
[TNU]Atsumari09-Dec-17 04:16 PM
well it took them a long time to realize that
my sim takes place in 4566
now they have the navy, marines and an army that does nothing
cause they have no ships
they just sit on planets protecting them
but how useful is that
well I think the discussion here is over
as I said in the other session I was in before mine though if anyone wants to add me feel free
I like the people here :3
[GEC] Kai1701E09-Dec-17 04:21 PM
So, if someone was to get their hands on a genesis type weapon, which species would most likely use it to attack their enemies?
Carde09-Dec-17 04:26 PM
Dominion if still around, or the Romulans/Cardassians
[GEC] Kai1701E09-Dec-17 04:27 PM
who would they attack?
Carde09-Dec-17 04:30 PM
Few key worlds of their enemies to force them to their knees
Or just all of them and take over in all the time you got
